Reciprocal translocation between chromosomes 8 and 9 in atypical chronic myeloid leukaemia.
A balanced translocation t(8;9) (p11;q34) was present in the peripheral blood, bone marrow, and spleen cells of a patient with Ph negative chronic myeloid leukaemia. Subsequent transformation into acute leukaemia was associated with the emergence of trisomy 8 and der(8)(8qter----cen----8p11::9q34----9qter). This is the third reported case of t(8;9) (p11;q34) and raises the question of the role ...
متن کاملChromosomes in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukaemia: karyotypic patterns in disease subtypes.
To define further the clinical importance of cytogenetic analysis in acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) a prospective study was performed on 139 unselected children. Analyses were considered adequate in 104, of whom 35 were normal and 69 had clonal abnormalities. Abnormalities were categorised according to banded chromosome analysis as well as chromosome count. Karyotypes were correlated with ...
متن کاملleukaemia, myelodysplastic syndromes, and chronic myeloid leukaemia
Introduction The standard approach to the diagnosis of acute leukaemia and myelodysplasia has been based on the morphology and percentage of malignant haemopoietic cells in peripheral blood and in an aspirated sample of bone marrow. The FAB group reports on acute leukaemia have emphasised the value of additional information gained from cytochemistry,' and immunological studies and cytogenetics ...
متن کاملComplex Variant of Philadelphia Translocation Involving Chromosomes 9, 12, and 22 in a Case with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia
Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a hematopoietic stem cell disorder included in the broader diagnostic category of myeloproliferative neoplasms, associated with fusion by BCR gene at chromosome 22q11 to ABL1 gene at chromosome 9q34 with the formation of the Philadelphia (Ph) chromosome. In 2-10% of CML cases, the fusion gene arises in connection with a variant translocation, involving chromoso...
متن کاملCryptosporidiosis and acute leukaemia.
Six children with cryptosporidiosis, concurrently receiving chemotherapy for acute leukaemia (n = 5) and lymphoma (n = 1), are described. Two died with evidence of persistent infection. Modification of the chemotherapy regimens in the other four children was associated with successful eradication of the pathogen and permitted continued treatment of the primary disease.
